The RS is made so you can still rip your shortboard on smaller waves.  It has a slightlywider outline in the nose and the tail with a hip at the fins so its easier to turn in weaker waves.  The board has less rocker which helps in catching waves and getting over weak flat spots.  You should ride this board an inch or two smaller than your regular shortboard.
